UDHAGAMANDALAM: As a goodwill gesture to motivate the thirty sanitary workers attached to ward number 1 in the Ooty municipality, the 'Make Ooty Beautiful' (MOB) initiative organised a high tea party on Wednesday. A couple of months back, MOB along with various organisations started a clean-up cum awareness work at R C Colony (ward 1) under the banner 'Namma Ooty'.
In collaboration with the Ooty municipality, MOB achieved removing the roadside garbage bins in that area so as to keep stray animals away from scattering the garbage all over. Now, daily collection of segregated garbage is being practiced for the past few weeks.
"It is to encourage the sanitary workers and to establish their importance in keeping the hill town clean," Shobana Chandrashekar, founder of MOB said.
"By involving the municipality, residents and the volunteers, we could create awareness among RC Colony residents in ward 1," she added.
With individual contributions and from their kitty, MOB sponsored 30 gloves for the workers besides 8 rakes. Out of 30, 22 were women workers. "Continuous monitoring and follow-up in that area for the past two months reaped some amount of awareness in that area. We could see a tremendous change there," Anita Nanjappa, a MOB member said.
